Chris is a light sleeper and was awake at the sounds, I slept through that first part. I am a very heavy sleeper and probably would never have known anything was happening if Chris hadn't woke me up. But Chris wakes me up to tell me that the house across the street is on fire. WHAT?
That is not what you expect to hear at 1:30 AM, and it freaked me out. Chris could see flames coming from the house, all I could see were people standing outside and walking down the street and lots of smoke. It was so noisy and there were so many flashing lights, it was so surreal so late/early in the night. Luckily, no one was hurt, the house didn't burn out completely, but it will definitely make our street look like more of an eyesore than it did 24 hours ago!
Here's the only thing said on the news about it:
Lansing fire crews responded to a house fire that occurred at around 1:15 a.m. this morning.
According to a news release from the Lansing Fire Department, a fire broke out in a 2-1/2 story house located at 824 W. Ionia St. When firefighters arrived, all occupants had exited the house.
Fire crews contained the blaze to a living room, but there was some smoke and water damage to other parts of the home. No injuries were reported, according to the fire department.
The Lansing Fire Department Fire Marshall's division is investigating, but the fire appears to be accidental at this time, according to officials.
Three adults living at the house are being assisted by the mid-Michigan chapter of the American Red Cross, the fire department said.
Then I was asleep again.
